What was done: The war in Ukraine is still going. The missile shield is funded but, by defense-press accounts, has barely moved.

As of September 2026 there is no peace agreement in Ukraine; only limited truces have been tried, and the Secretary of State has said the war must end in a negotiated settlement. The “Golden Dome” missile shield was announced in May 2025 at $175 billion, and the July 2025 tax law gave it about $25 billion. In April 2026, National Defense Magazine reported the program was “spinning its wheels” because of internal disagreement over its design.
